It was in 1977, in a workshop only 2000 square feets, that Escaliers Gilles Grenier built its first staircase. The firm's plant has grown to 85 000 square feets and is located in St-Elzéar de Beauce, in the province of Quebec, Canada.

To better control costs and the quality of the wood needed to manufacture stairs, the firm purchased a sawmill and three industrial wood kilns. The kilns maintain the correct proportion of humidity in the wood, preventing sticking and flaking. These decision enabled the firm to be the only one of its kind complete control over all stages of production, from felling logs to crafting the final product.
